Abaca+ Filter Paper
CAFEC Abaca filter paper has become widely popular worldwide in recent years. The Abaca+ line is an upgraded version using fine-grain crepe technology, reducing weight while increasing surface area and flow rate.
- Two-sided crepe structure
- FSC certified — sustainable forest management
- Air-dried manufacturing process
- Approved by JHDC (Japan Hand-Drip Championship)
Fine-Grain Crepe Technology
Fine-grain crepe technology — by narrowing the distance between crepe fibers rather than increasing height, CAFEC creates filter paper with greater surface area in the same dimensions.
The result: faster flow rates, thinner paper weight, reduced shipping impact and environmental footprint, while maintaining filtration efficiency.

CAFEC Abaca vs. Traditional Filters
Traditional filter papers typically have single-sided crepe structure, manufactured using heated drum drying. CAFEC Abaca uses two-sided crepe structure, allowing water to flow more evenly across the entire paper surface.

Manufacturing Process
CAFEC uses air-drying technology instead of the standard heated drum process. This method preserves the paper's natural two-sided crepe structure.

✓ CAFEC — Air-Drying Method
Preserves two-sided crepe, uniform water flow, smooth extraction.

✗ Standard — Heated Drum
Crepe flattened on one side, uneven water flow, inconsistent extraction.
Advantages of CAFEC Filter Paper
Air-Drying Method
Air-drying preserves natural crepe structure without flattening.
Fine Paper Texture
Fine, uniform paper texture allows consistent water flow, better fine particle retention.
Consistent Results
Consistent brew quality every time — not dependent on barista skill level.
Roast-Specific Filter Papers
Founder Shigeji Nakatsuka, with decades of hand-roasting and brewing experience, realized that each roast level needs a different filter paper for optimal extraction.

Abaca Fiber — Non-Wood Material
Abaca filter paper is made from Manila hemp (Abaca) fiber — a non-wood material combined with sustainably-sourced wood pulp. Abaca fiber is four times stronger than standard wood fibers despite being half the thickness.
Abaca fiber regenerates quickly without felling trees — environmentally friendly. Officially approved by JHDC (Japan Hand-Drip Championship).
SFP — Support Forest Paper
The SFP filter paper line is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified for supply chain traceability, supporting sustainable forest management.
FSC certification ensures that wood pulp used in filter paper production comes from responsibly managed forests — aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
